Manly Card Monday #1

Uncategorized

Men’s cards can be hard, so I’m challenging myself to masculine cards every Monday for the next few months. Today’s is a birthday card featuring this great quote: “Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been” from Mark Twain.

Any black ink will work for this sentiment. I didn’t emboss the quote because I like the vintage look of the ink on its own. These clear stamps from Hobbycraft are a brilliant buy as they’re between 50p and £1 each and don’t take up much storage space.

I die-cut around this using the stitched journalling card from Lawn Fawn. It’s a great die but, living in the UK, I’ve had to put in the work to find an affordable way of building up my Lawn Fawn collection and avoiding horrible customs fees.

There are lots of UK sites that sell American brands, but the cheapest I’ve found is  makethedayspecial.co.uk. They feature plenty of Lawn Fawn products and similar US brands like Mama Elephant too.

Taking a piece of black card, I stamped “Happy Birthday” with clear ink and embossed with silver powder, then stuck the black card on some pearly silver and cut along the top with craft scissors to make it a bit more fun. And also because it didn’t cut straight… oops! No one will ever know.

I adhered it all with double-sided tape and created a faux stitched effect with a silver gel pen as a finishing touch. (As you can see, it went a bit wonky on one side – but no worries!)
